The UK already boasts plenty of brilliant holiday hotspots and attractions, but there are some big openings planned that we’re getting excited about, from theme parks to holiday resorts.
We’re not just talking about new rides or themed lands (although there are plenty new UK theme park attractions for 2021).
We’re talking full theme parks with new rollercoasters, or multi-million pound attractions for film and TV fans.
Then there are the new holiday resorts opening with swanky hotels, cosy lodges and even safari park stays with views of elephants from your room.
We take a look at some of the exciting new theme parks, attractions and resorts worth bookmarking for future staycations…
1. London Resort, Kent
Dubbed the UK’s answer to Disneyland, this giant £3.5billion theme park is set to open in Kent and will be the size of 136 Wembley Stadiums, filled with immersive and themed rides, attractions and more.
The resort has signed deals with Paramount Pictures, BBC Studios and ITV Studios, so we can’t wait to see exactly what they have in store for the UK’s theme park goers, although a sneak peek at renderings suggests there will be themed lands, at least EIGHT rollercoasters and plenty more surprises.
It’s still in the early stages of planning, although a planning application has been submitted to the government. If successful, there are hopes it will be open by 2024.

2. Gulliver’s World Woodland Retreat, Warrington
Gulliver’s World is expanding its Warrington site to include a £5.6million Woodland Retreat complete with 67 themed lodges and group accommodation alongside camping and caravanning options.
The retreat will also feature an on-site spa for adults, and a Woodland Adventure Area, which is specifically designed so that “children and families are encouraged to enjoy the great outdoors”.
There is no set opening date but construction is expected to begin in spring 2021.
You can find out more on gulliversworldresort.co.uk.
3. Safari lodges, West Midlands Safari Park
West Midlands Safari Park is opening eight swanky lodges, six which overlook its elephants’ habitat and two which overlook the cheetahs’ habitat.
Guests will be able to take in views of the animals from their bedrooms, or the open plan living room and dining area.
Plus, with floor-to-ceiling windows you really can enjoy the views, even if you’re relaxing in bed! Bookings have already opened for the lodges which launch in mid February.
Prices will start from £171 per adult and £147 per child for a night’s stay. You can book and find out more on www.safari-lodges.co.uk.
4. New holiday park, Lincolnshire
A huge new holiday park nicknamed a ‘Center Parcs by the Sea’ is set to open in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, with 250 eco-lodges, a hotel and a lake for watersports.
An application was submitted earlier this year to transform the 57-acre site into a holiday resort with eco-lodges, a hotel, a superstore, petrol station and two leisure units.
Other highlights will include a large lake where holidaymakers can partake in watersports including kayaking, paddle boarding and canoeing, as well as a large food hall with 25 different kitchens.

5. Game of Thrones Studio Tour, Banbridge
Game of Thrones fans will be able to wander through the iconic sets and learn behind-the-scenes secrets of the hit show at the new £24million themed attraction at the Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge, Northern Ireland.
Highlights will include sets for the Dragonstone’s Throne Room and Map Room, Castle Black’s Mess Room, Cersei’s Courtyard in King’s Landing, and even Winterfell.
The attraction promises a “deeply immersive and sensory experience” – and judging by a teaser look of the rooms, it could live up to the hype.
There’s no confirmed opening date yet but local authorities have given the green light for the attraction. You can find out more at linenmillstudios.com.
6. Southport Cove Resort, Merseyside
We can’t wait for this £40million water park which will feature a huge 250m-long beach, a ‘world class’ wave pool where waves can reach heights of two metres, and heaps of fun activities for families and thrill-seekers to explore.
The Southport Cove Resort, in Merseyside, will also have heaps of restaurants, cafés and indoor leisure facilities, although it’s not yet been revealed exactly what the latter will entail.
Other features will include a wellness/spa facility, four-star accommodation and a boardwalk.
Currently there is no opening date for the attraction – but when we do get more information, we’ll keep you posted!
7. Pinewood Studios
Pinewood Studios has plans to create a huge new ‘film-inspired’ tourist attraction in the UK, which represents an investment of £450million and will cover a site of 350,000 sq m.
The film studios in Buckinghamshire, where franchises such as James Bond, Star Wars, Harry Potter and Marvel films have been shot, is looking to open a new attraction for film buffs dubbed the ‘Screen Hub UK’ .
It’s in the early stages of planning, with applications being prepared and consultations being put in place with locals.
You can find out more on the Pinewood Studios website.
