The theme park has revealed it will be bringing some of the comedian and author’s best-loved characters to life from spring 2020, although it has yet to confirm an exact opening date.
They’re keeping tight-lipped about what’s planned, although they have revealed that ‘The World of David Walliams’ will be centred around the park’s existing Cloud Cuckoo Land.
We do know that they’re also promising a “ground-breaking, unique headline attraction” alongside plenty more attractions and tributes across the theme park and within the resort hotels.
David Walliams said: “It’s a huge thrill for some of my favourite characters to be getting their own attractions at Alton Towers.
“I can’t wait to experience them for myself, and from all the work that has gone in I think people are going to love it. All will be revealed next year.”
It’s no surprise that David’s books caught the resort’s attention. After all, he began writing children’s books in 2008 and since then has published 12 children’s novels, short story collections and picture books.
Not to mention his book sales have exceeded 33 million copies worldwide to date.
The project has been two years in the making, with Alton Towers working closely with David and HarperCollins Children’s Books.
Construction has already begun with a team of nearly 100 specialists working on the exciting expansion, which will coincide with Alton Towers’ 40th anniversary next year.
