Arsenal’s summer business might not be over just yet, despite the significant investment to bring new faces to the Emirates Stadium.
Gabriel Magalhaes has joined from Lille in a big-money deal, while others have joined for substantially less money, but Mikel Arteta still has some areas of his squad in need of improvement.
We have the latest on a few potential ins and outs for the Gunners, including a new name on the targets list and updates on a couple of players who could find themselves on the way out before Arsenal ’s first game of the 2020/21 season kicks off.
Gunners look at surprise loan move for West Ham man
Arsenal could be about to further add to their Brazilian contingent with a loan swoop for West Ham United’s Felipe Anderson.
The former Lazio man, who was the Hammers’ record signing when he joined in 2018, was in and out of the team under David Moyes and started just one of his team’s last 10 league games last season.
This has alerted Arsenal to the potential availability of the high-earning winger, with a £5m fee for a season-long loan deal mooted.
Arsenal have already added Brazil international Willian and Selecao under-20 man Gabriel Magalhaes to their ranks this summer, with the two joining compatriots David Luiz and Gabriel Martinelli in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Anderson scored nine league goals in his first West Ham season but netted just once last term, in Moyes’ first game in charge on New Year’s Day.
Napoli confirm interest in Arsenal defender
Napoli’s interest in Arsenal centre-back Sokratis has been an open secret for much of the summer, and now the Italian club’s president has confirmed their intent to sign the Greek international.
Sokratis, signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, struggled for minutes under Arteta and appears to be surplus to requirements in north London following the signings of Gabriel and Pablo Mari and the return from loan of William Saliba.
Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis confirmed the Serie A club was “working on it” when asked about the move by local radio station Radio Kiss Kiss (via Goal).
The Italian side may yet lose centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, with reported interest from the Premier League, and manager Rino Gattuso is keen to add to his squad as they aim to return to Serie A’s top four.

Mohamed Elneny returned to the Arsenal first team for the Community Shield, but the Egyptian international could be the subject of a new transfer tug-of-war.
Elneny, who is under contract until 2022, spent last season on loan at Besiktas and had been linked with a return to the Turkish club.
However, according to TuttoMercatoWeb (via football.london), Sampdoria are also interested in taking the midfielder on a season-long loan.
Sampdoria manager Claudio Ranieri has already turned to the Premier League once this summer, signing Maya Yoshida from Southampton following a loan spell, and Elneny could be the second player to move to the Serie A club after several years in England.
Elneny, who played just eight league games for Arsenal in the 2018/19 season, scored once in 33 outings in all competitions for Besiktas last term.
