Brits who didn’t get to enjoy a summer holiday due to the Covid-19 pandemic are hoping to escape on a winter break instead, according to new research.
Club Med’s annual ski report, which polled 2,000 Brits, has revealed that two in five Brits are planning to take a winter holiday this ski season because they missed out on a summer holiday.
The previous winter season ended earlier this year, but saw ski resorts around the world forced to close early when the pandemic broke.
In fact, 51% of frequent skiers didn’t go on their winter sports holiday due to a cancellation directly caused by Covid-19. However, that hasn’t deterred the majority, with 52% of those who were unable to go having already rebooked for the upcoming season (December through to April).
Of course during the pandemic, health and safety are key. Important factors for those surveyed included a resort with social distancing measures, regular cleaning in the resort as well as accessible hand sanitiser, Covid-19 testing available on site and the use of masks in public places.
As for the destinations top of their wishlists? Switzerland, France, Austria and Italy were the holiday hotspots of choice. (Unfortunately at the time of writing the FCDO still advises against travel to these destinations, so Brits may need to wait a little longer).
There have been some glimmers of hopes for holidaymakers too. News of a promising Covid-19 vaccine has already seen firms noting surges in Brits planning holidays.
Meanwhile, the government has said that when lockdown ends it will lift its current ban on international travel, meaning that if a destination is on the UK’s travel corridors then it could be on the cards for a holiday.
D uring the coronavirus pandemic, countries may be subject to a change in travel restrictions. Always check the latest FCDO advice for your chosen destination before planning, booking, or going on a trip.
