Conor McGregor was given his $50,000 bonus in cash from UFC president Dana White after ‘The Notorious’ knocked out Donald Cerrone in his comeback bout.
Former two-weight world champion McGregor needed just 40 seconds to stop Cerrone in the Irishman’s first UFC fight since October 2018.
For that, McGregor was named as one of five fighters who would take home a performance of the night bonus payment.
And McGregor can be seen being handed the bonus in cash by White in pictures on the Irishman’s Instagram account.
The pictures show the pair drinking Irish coffees made with McGregor’s own brand whiskey ‘Proper Twelve’ following the 31-year-old’s successful comeback at UFC 246 in Las Vegas at the weekend.
White can be seen grabbing the huge wad of cash from a bag and handing it to McGregor – but the bonus payment is peanuts compared to his pay cheque for Saturday’s fight.
McGregor has claimed he will walk away $80million from his first win in three years even though his base fee was $3m.
That is taking into account his share of the worldwide pay-per-view and his various endorsements.
McGregor bloodied Cerrone’s nose in the opening few seconds of their welterweight bout with a couple of unorthodox shoulder strikes.
McGregor then stepped back and a head kick high over the guard landed square on the jaw of Cerrone, who fell to the floor and was left covering up as the Irishman rained down punches, prompting an early stoppage.
He will now target a fight at either lightweight or welterweight with bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov and 170lb Jorge Masvidal the leading contenders.
Nurmagomedov must first beat Tony Ferguson when they clash in New York in April while Masvidal is nursing a hand injury suffered in his win over Nate Diaz and will not return until the spring at the earliest.
Whomever McGregor fights it will likely be the biggest event in the history of the UFC.
