We all have those holiday favourites we can’t help but return to (even the Queen always goes to the same summer hotspot ).
In fact, a survey by Sykes Holiday Cottages revealed that 92 per cent of Brits have returned to the same holiday spot more than once.
However, one German couple has seriously upped the stakes – by going on the exact same summer holiday for 56 years in a row.
The Uthoffs, from Cologne, Germany, have been spending their summer in the same cottage in Dorset for nearly six decades.
The couple, now aged 91 and 86, first visited the village of Burton Bradstock nearly 60 years ago when Mrs Uthoff’s sister was an au pair there, and they instantly fell in love with the peaceful and breathtaking surroundings.
So much so that they have returned every year since – even including trips with their children and grandchildren.
Each time, they’ve stayed at Cliff Farm , a traditional farmhouse which is right on the Jurassic Coast and offers some pretty incredible coastline views.
But this year, the Uthoffs were treated to a sweet surprise when they arrived for their annual trip.
That’s because Dream Cottages , part of Sykes Holiday Cottages, sent two employees to surprise the Uthoffs with the news that they were getting their five-week holiday for FREE this year!
Oh, and the pair were also given a luxury hamper, bunch of flowers and a certificate to celebrate the milestone.
Mrs Uthoff said : “Having visited Burton Bradstock for many years, we have made so many fond memories of the area.
“I distinctly remember when a colonel would ride his horse past the cottage every day and tip his cap to us, and the local milkman would deliver fresh milk to each house – a sight you wouldn’t see nowadays!
“Although we’ve seen many changes to the area over the decades, the charm of the place has remained, and that’s what’s brought us back time and time again.
“The cottage has a timeless appeal and my grandchildren love staying in the house just as much as my children did all those years ago.
” Cliff Farm offers us everything we could possibly want in a break. As well as its cosy living spaces, the property’s location means we can take in the best of Dorset’s coast and countryside. We can’t imagine staying anywhere else.”
Other highlights for the couple included the beach walks, local markets and the seafood restaurants, but one thing that they’re particularly happy about is the circle of friends they’ve made over the years.
