Frank Bruno backs heavyweight legends to follow Mike Tyson in making ring return

Frank Bruno has backed more old-timers to come out of retirement – as long as they don’t disrespect boxing.

Bruno’s old adversary Mike Tyson will return to the ring on Saturday night when he takes on Roy Jones Jr.

The eight-round fight has been labelled an exhibition bout but Tyson has insisted he will look for the knockout.

And Bruno told Mirror Fighting : “Fifty is the new 40 and 60 is the new 50!

“This might be a starting point for people doing exhibitions; Evander Holyfield was talking about it and you might even see George Foreman coming back.

“People live longer and the older they get the more they look after themselves compared to the old days so this could open a can of worms.

“If they can make a bit of money, good luck to them as long as no-one gets hurt and as long as they don’t mug off boxing.

“I’ usually up at 4am so it’ll be no trouble for me to watch; I’ll be up at that time to go training so I’ll watch it on the running machine!”

Tyson struggled with drug addiction towards the end of his career and retired on his stool in his final fight against Kevin McBride in 2005.

But he has rebuilt his life and is now a successful businessman having launched a one-man stage show and a cannabis ranch.

And Bruno added:” He’s got himself a good wife and he’s doing very well for himself these days – he’s got a Bob Marley farm if you know what I mean!

“He’ll always be part of history – he was the youngest to win the heavyweight world championship and it was very hard for anyone to take away his title.

“Muhammad Ali was the godfather but Mike Tyson wasn’t far behind.”

BT Sport’s night of heavyweight boxing action on Saturday begins with Daniel Dubois v Joe Joyce on BT Sport 1 from 7:30pm.

Tyson v Jones Jr. will be live on BT Sport Box Office from 1am and can be watched on BT TV, Virgin TV, Sky, online via the web or the BT Sport Box Office App. To order both fights visit
