Gabriel Martinelli is the latest Arsenal star to suffer a potentially season-ending injury, as the crisis at the club worsens.
The Brazilian pulled up with a knee complaint in Sunday’s training session at Arsenal’s London Colney base, and reported the issue to the medical department.
On Monday the forward went for a scan to determine the full extent of the injury.
Early indications suggest Martinelli has meniscus damage, which could sideline the £6million signing for the rest of the campaign.
The injury is the latest set-back Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is having to contend with at the Emirates.
In Arsenal’s first Premier League fixture back against Manchester City the Spaniard lost both Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari to injury.
Arteta spoke to reported after the match at the Amex, and admitted he is fearing the worst. He said: “It doesn’t look good but we don’t know anything yet.
“I don’t know, it was too far from me. I’m sure he [Maupay] did not have the intention to do that.”
One slight positive is that Leno’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared, although the keeper could still miss the remainder of the season.
The German has suffered minor ligament damage, but is aiming to be back training in just six weeks.
Gunners manager Arteta is also without Cedric Soares, Lucas Torreira, Sokratis and Calum Chambers.
