Pinewood Studios has unveiled plans to create a huge new ‘film-inspired’ tourist attraction in the UK.
The film studios in Buckinghamshire, where franchises such as James Bond, Star Wars and Marvel films have been shot, is looking to open a new attraction for film buffs dubbed the ‘Screen Hub UK’ .
The attraction represents an investment of approximately £450million, with the attraction set to cover 350,000 sq m.
At the moment the group is staying tight-lipped about exactly what it has planned, although it did reveal that the new site would include a ‘film-inspired’ attraction, as well as new production facilities which have ‘live’ links to the experience itself.
No details have been shared about exactly which films will be included, however the studios is renowned for being the home of hundreds of iconic films, spanning franchises such as James Bond, Star Wars, Marvel, Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean.
As part of the new site, film buffs will also be able to access education facilities, a ‘creative industries business growth hub’ and a ‘green campus’.
The attraction will be directly adjacent to the working film studios.
At the moment, the project is in the very early stages of planning. The company said that it has begun preparing its applications, and is due to start consultations with the local community and its stakeholders.
Pinewood Group Chairman Paul Golding said: “The Government and Buckinghamshire LEP have recognised Pinewood Studios as a major economic asset to be enhanced with the creation of a screen growth hub for the UK.
“We are pleased to be able to respond with this scheme. We have been looking at a visitor experience for some time and feel that now is the right moment to bring it forward.
“The project will strengthen UK film and bring much needed jobs and spending. We hope our planning application will receive widespread support.”
