Tourists heading to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics could get the opportunity to visit the rest of Japan – without having to fork out extra holiday budget.
That’s because, to mark the sporting event, Japan Airlines is giving away 50,000 free return flights to heaps of Japanese hotspots, to help those who want to explore the country.
The domestic flights will be available for travel between the 1st July through to the 30th September, to coincide with the Olympic dates.
You’ll need to already be travelling to Japan to make use of the flights – but it could be a great (and budget-friendly) way to add on an extra stop on the itinerary.
The best part is that you can apply as a group of up to four people, so you don’t need to ditch your fellow travellers at the Olympics.
Applications will open in February, with four possible destinations on offer; but there’s a twist. You won’t find out where you’re going when you book – if you’re successful, Japan Airlines will tell you within three days of your application.
There are return flights from both Tokyo and Osaka on offer, and you can choose departure/arrival slots to fit your existing plans so it could actually be quite a convenient way of adding an extra adventure to your trip.
Applications will open in late February, although they haven’t yet revealed a specific date. If you’re interested, you can find out more on the Japan Airlines website here .
