The performers for the 54th Super Bowl have been confirmed as Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, with the two pop singers set to take to the stage together for the famous half time show.
The announcement was made on Thursday by NFL, Pepsi and Roc Nation, and both singers posted pictures of each other on social media.
Pepsi’s vice president of marketing Todd Kaplan said: “These two remarkable artists are setting a new precedent for what this show can become, and we’re confident that this will be an incredible performance for the ages.”
Lopez, 50, posted a photo of Shakira wearing the Pepsi symbol on her arm along with a ring that says 2020 along with the caption “This is happening. 02.02.20.”
Shakira, meanwhile, posted an image of JLo wearing a Pepsi ring and belt buckle and a necklace that reads 2020 with the caption “Get ready. 02.02.20.”
Both performers have had hugely successful careers and have released music in both Spanish and English since the 1990s.
After previously being asked about the event JLo said: “It’s something that we’ve talked about for many years, and, you know, it would be nice. It would be nice. I can’t say I wouldn’t love it.”
The singers will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Beyonce , Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake in performing in the notorious show, while last year Maroon 5 had the honour of performing in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta as New England Patriots beat Los Angeles Rams 13-3.
The Super Bowl is one of the most-viewed sporting events in the world, and it is expected next year’s game and halftime show will be broadcast in 180 countries.
As usual New England Patriots are among the favourites to make it to the event having made it four times in the last five years, while Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams are among the other sides tipped to make it.
