Jurgen Klopp admits Mo Salah has lost best friend Dejan Lovren after Liverpool exit hint

Jurgen Klopp admitted Mohamed Salah has lost his best friend at the football club in Dejan Lovren after the defender completed a move to Zenit St. Petersburg.

The admission comes just days after Salah hinted he could also leave Liverpool, saying he doesn’t know what the future has in store for him.

Lovren ended his six-year spell at Liverpool on Monday, and in his tribute to the centre-back, Klopp referenced his good friendship with Salah.

“Yesterday we said ‘Who is now the best friend of Mo?” said Klopp.

“Because they are real besties. We will miss him, he’s a model athlete. He has everything you need. But now he goes to Russia.”

Klopp added: “Another Liverpool legend has left the club, because he was absolutely a very important part of this team.

“From the first day, I remember when we played with Dortmund against Liverpool in a pre-season friendly and Dejan scored with a header with incredible power.

“That was the image in my mind when I came here and thought about the defenders we had.

“He played super games and scored one of the most important goals of our history, in the 4-3 against Borussia Dortmund.

Jurgen Klopp admitted Salah has lost his best mate at the club

“A really wonderful moment to share and so many good games, and when he was fit he was very often in the team.

“A great player, great person. He speaks five languages as well.”

Salah was recently asked about his own future at Liverpool after the club won a very first Premier League title.

Lovren and Salah celebrate with the Premier League trophy

During an interview with LA FM Colombia, the Egyptian said: “I just want to enjoy today and enjoy the moment!

“No one knows the future and what will happen. Let’s see what will happen. But at the moment we win the Champions League, we win the Premier League, I’m happy.

“Let’s see what will happen in the future, but I’m very happy to win and achieve those trophies.”

Lovren has signed for Zenit St. Petersburg

Interestingly, Klopp was asked to comment on Salah’s long-term future at Liverpool back in February, and provided a very similar response.

He said: “I would think so [he’ll stay at Liverpool], did you hear something different? How can you see the hunger to stay at Liverpool?

“It looks to me like he is really settled to be honest.

Salah recently dropped a hint over his own future at the club

“I have no idea, actually, but you could ask me the same question for all the others and I have no idea. I didn’t think about it until [the press] asked me.

“As long as I don’t hear anything and I don’t ask the players what they think of next season or in two years, for me, it looks like [he will stay].

“How long is his contract? Long? I would [think so] yes, but I have no idea.”
