Jordan Henderson’s performance at centre-back in Liverpool’s Club World Cup semi-final against Monterrey was labelled “magnificent” by then team-mate Adam Lallana.
Henderson has been suggested as a possible candidate to fill in at centre-back amid Jurgen Klopp’s current defensive crisis.
The Premier League champions are without Virgil van Dijk for up to nine months after the Holland international ruptured his ACL in the Merseyside derby.
Liverpool are also without Fabinho – who had been covering Van Dijk – after he limped off in the Reds’ Champions League win over Midtjylland.
Henderson has been touted as another midfielder who could slot back into defence at Liverpool, as he has previously done so before – to great effect.

“We had Hendo [Jordan Henderson] at centre-half and I thought he was magnificent,” Lallana told The Guardian, after the Monterrey game in 2019.
“That is all part of the character and the mentality and why we keep churning out late winners. It’s as simple as that.”
Henderson recently spoke out about filling in in the unfamiliar position, and admitted he’d do it again for the betterment of his team.
“That was different. I had fantastic players around me, and they helped me out. It was different to anything that I have been used to,” he said.
“I’ve played at full-back, but I’ve never played there before.
“I just tried to do my best for the team and thankfully we got the win. I don’t know what will happen with Virgil on Saturday. Fingers crossed he will be okay.
“Of course, if the manager needed me to go there again, I would do it. It is anything to help the team.
“We wanted to get to the final and we want to win. We have done the first bit by getting to the final and now we want to win it. That’s the mentality of this team.”
