Liam Gallagher launched an incredible rant on Wednesday night in which he claimed that the Premier League season has only resumed so Liverpool can finally end their 30-year wait for a title.
The Oasis legend also blasted that the top-flight action, which is being played behind closed doors, is “pure w***” – and called for the campaign to be voided.
Gallagher’s Manchester City went head-to-head with Arsenal on Wednesday, which followed Aston Villa’s draw with Sheffield United, as English top-flight football returned for the first time since March.
City got off to the perfect start when Raheem Sterling took advantage of a David Luiz mistake to give the hosts the lead on the stroke of half-time at the Etihad, before Kevin De Bruyne doubled their lead.
But, despite watching his side dominate, avid City supporter Gallagher was less than impressed with what he saw on display.
He wrote on Twitter : “This is pure w*** void the season absolutely ridiculous all because the scousers ain’t won the league for 300 years.”
Reigning champions City are set to lose their crown this season, with Liverpool just two wins away from winning their first league title in 30 years.
City are doing their best to make the Reds wait though, with Pep Guardiola’s side making light work of Mikel Arteta’s side on Wednesday night.
Sterling scored the first Premier League goal in 100 days as the English top-flight season restarted on Wednesday following its suspension in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sterling capitalised on a mistake by Arsenal defender Luiz to smash the ball past goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the closing minutes of the first half at Etihad Stadium.
Luiz’s night got even worse when he show a straight red card for fouling Riyad Mahrez in the box, with Kevin De Bruyne confidently stepping up to score from the spot.
