Manchester United and Liverpool have been told they must pay £90million to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.
German midfielder Havertz is expected to be one of next summer’s hottest transfer properties after he said he could be on the move next summer.
Speaking to Sportbuzzer, Havertz said: “I am happy to stay at Leverkusen for one more year. What happens next summer will be experienced in the future.”
And while he is contracted to Leverkusen until the summer of 2022, it is believed the Bundesliga club are ready to cash in.
Havertz scored 17 goals in the Bundesliga last season and has one to his name so far this campaign.
That is according to the Daily Express, who say Leverkusen have told suitors they will have to pay £90m for the attacking midfielder.
While United have been linked with Havertz, they could opt to spend that £90m on England star Jadon Sancho, which would give Dortmund the cash to follow up their interest in Havertz.
German publication Kicker has previously reported that Havertz is a serious target for Dortmund as they try to beat Bayern Munich to his signature.
Reports in Germany this summer claimed Liverpool were set to make a move for the 20-year-old, but the Reds opted against making a marquee signing and instead recruited two youth prospects in Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott.
He told Sky Sports: “You should never do transfers because other clubs are doing transfers. That makes no sense, it’s not about that.
“And if you sit back for a second and have a look at the squad, do we need more players?
“People will say, yes, we need a substitute for Sadio Mane, for Mohamed Salah, whatever.
“But those players are here.”
