Man Utd told Harry Kane transfer can fire them to Premier League title

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has urged his ex-club to make a move for Tottenham’s Harry Kane this summer – and believes he could be the key figure in helping them win the Premier League.

United made their first signing of the current transfer window on Wednesday by bringing in Dutch attacking midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax in a £40m deal.

But they are not planning to stop there, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer allegedly still intending to add a centre-back, winger and striker to his squad.

And speaking to talkSPORT Meulensteen – who worked alongside the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford – stated his belief that the Red Devils should go all out for England captain Kane.

Harry Kane has long been on Manchester United’s radar

“What is vitally important is that United need to have a really good start to the season, so they don’t lose any ground and they are in there and they can keep competing. That will grow the belief,” Meulensteen said.

“I think with maybe another good signing, I keep saying they should bring in a really top, top striker. For instance, if they were able to get Kane – which I don’t think they can – but if they could get Kane, I would say ‘yes, they will compete for the title next year.'”

Spurs would be unlikely to let Kane go for anything less than £200m, with their chairman Daniel Levy notoriously one of the most astute negotiators in the Premier League.

With Anthony Martial and Odion Ighalo United’s only two natural strikers in the squad at the moment, they are keen on adding a player in the mould of Kane.

They have also been linked with the likes of Lyon’s Moussa Dembele and Raul Jimenez of Wolves, and it remains to be seen if they make a big-money bid for either in the coming weeks.
