The signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax last week saw Manchester United make their first signing of the summer transfer window.
While the Dutchman could prove to be a shrewd addition, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will surely want further new faces in through the Old Trafford door before the window closes in October.
United continue to pursue Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, with the Red Devils also linked with various defenders and midfielders.
There is still time for the club to make moves, but the clock is ticking.
Here are three of today’s biggest and most intriguing Manchester United transfer stories.
Agent of Porto left back in England to discuss United move
Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to sign a new left back, with the agent of Porto’s Alex Telles in England to discuss a move to Old Trafford.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola (via Metro) reports United could be close to completing a deal for the 27-year-old, with the player’s representatives in England to discuss a potential transfer to the Premier League.
Telles could be available for a knock-down price with the Brazilian’s contract at Porto set to expire next summer.
United struggling to offload fringe players due to high wages
Manchester United’s efforts to reshape their squad and raise funds for transfers of their own are being hindered by the high wages many of their fringe players are on.
ESPN claims Phil Jones, Andreas Pereira, Marcos Rojo, Sergio Romero and Chris Smalling have been put up for sale this summer, but potential suitors have been put off by the wages each of these players are on.
Rojo and Smalling have been informed that they could still earn a place in the United squad for the 2020/21 season after the club’s search for a new central defender stalled.
Van de Beek was Manchester United’s first signing of the summer window, joining from Ajax last week, but the Red Devils may need to compromise on other targets if they cannot find buyers for unwanted players.
Sergio Reguilon’s salary learned ahead of proposed United switch
Manchester United are leading the race to sign Real Madrid left back Sergio Reguilon after the 23-year-old spent an impressive season on loan at Sevilla.
Spanish journalist Senen Escalante reports the Old Trafford club are willing to pay €30 million (£27 million) for the left back, with Reguilon in line for an annual salary of €5 million should he join the Red Devils.
Reguilon has been told by his parent club that there is no future for him at the Santiago Bernabeu and with the 23-year-old keen to play regular football that has opened the door for a move this summer.
