Mesut Ozil’s defiant Arsenal message on anniversary of joining Premier League giants

Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal seven years ago today and despite his struggles in recent seasons claims he “would not hesitate to do it all over again”.

The German made the switch from Real Madrid in 2013 for a £40m fee on deadline day.

His career at the Emirates started impressively and for the years that followed he played a starring role with his creativity a huge asset.

But since Arsene Wenger’s departure he has been marginalised with both Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta using him sporadically.

Ozil signed a mammoth £350,000-a-week deal in 2018 which has seen him cop huge levels of criticism.

The World Cup winner has regularly underlined his intention to see out his contract in north London and seemed to reaffirm his commitment to the club in his latest Instagram post.

He said: “7 years ago I joined the @ Arsenal  family and Mon. Wenger

“And I would not hesitate to do it all over again #anniversary #YaGunnersYa #M10”

Ozil has not featured in a Premier League game since March with Arteta coy when asked about his future in recent months.

The 30-year-old has been linked with several clubs but finding someone to take on his hefty salary has proved a challenge.

A host of Turkish sides have been touted as potential destinations given Ozil’s heritage and wife hail from the eastern European country.

Newly crowned champions İstanbul Başakşehir F.K are the latest club to be linked.

Ozil’s representative Erkut Sogut recently opened the door to several destinations when he discussed the player’s future.

“There’s a 90 per cent chance he will leave Arsenal in 2021,” he said. “Mesut to Asia, America or Turkey? Yes, maybe.”
