Mikel Arteta and Edu deliver verdict on Arsenal’s Dani Ceballos loan deal

Mikel Arteta and Edu have spoken out after it was confirmed that Dani Ceballos will return to Arsenal on loan.

Ceballos will spend a second successive season with the Gunners after Real Madrid gave the green light.

The midfielder made a good start to life at the Emirates after Arteta’s predecessor Unai Emery signed him on loan last summer.

Ceballos struggled to nail down a place in the team after a spell out on the sidelines with injury, but went on to become a key player under Arteta in the latter part of the season.

And the manager welcomed news of the 24-year-old’s return to north London.

“Dani was an integral part of our team last season and finished the season in excellent form,” said Arteta.

“I love Dani’s passion and commitment and he’s a highly skilful player.

“We’re all delighted to welcome him back and we look forward to seeing him pick up where he left off.”

Tecnhical director Edu hailed Ceballos’ role in Arsenal’s FA Cup triumph.

The Spain international having scored a crucial late winner in the quarter final against Sheffield United, and was a fixture in the first team as Arteta secured silverware in his first season as a manager.

“We’re thrilled to have Dani back with us for the new season,” said Edu.

“We all know his qualities after an impressive 2019/2020 campaign, which ended with him playing a key role in our FA Cup success.

“We’re excited to add Dani to the list of quality players we are bringing in.”

The return of Ceballos follows this week’s news that Arsenal had signed centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes for a fee that could rise to £27million.

Arsenal have also signed free transfer Willian on a bumper contract, as well as making loan deals for defenders Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares permanent.

And centre-back William Saliba will be at the Emirates this coming season after spending last season on loan at Saint-Etienne.

The Gunners also hope to tie down Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a mammoth new deal worth a reported £250,000 per year.
