A huge new holiday park is set to open in the UK complete with 250 eco-lodges, a hotel and a lake for watersports.
The new resort has been nicknamed a ‘Center Parcs by the Sea’ by its developers (although it’s not affiliated with the brand), and is set to open on the site of former theme park Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire.
As reported by GrimsbyLive, an application has been submitted detailing out plans to transform the 57-acre site into a holiday resort with eco-lodges, a hotel, a superstore, petrol station and two leisure units.
Other highlights will include a large lake where holidaymakers can partake in watersports including kayaking, paddle boarding and canoeing, as well as a large food hall with 25 different kitchens.
The resort will also boast a public square overlooking the lake which can be used for events and festivals.
The on-site hotel will have 148 bedrooms and will also include an entertainment and events-based conference centre which can hold up to 900 people.
The developers have also offered a glimpse of what they envisage the lodges looking like, sharing some renderings of their designs for the interiors. The lodges look pretty swish with heaps of space, large kitchens and views over the lake.
Currently the project is in early planning stages, but it’s expected that the first lodges would open as part of the first phase of completion, scheduled for spring 2022.
Entrepreneurs Adrian Smith and Ming Yeung are behind the project, having first laid out proposals for the resort earlier this year in August.
Adrian told GrimsbyLive: “It will put Cleethorpes back on the map as an up market holiday destinations and move on from the hotdogs, rock, and kiss-me-quick traditional resort to be more like a Center Parcs-by-the-sea.
“We have both built our respective businesses in residential and retail sectors and they are heading towards the doldrums. The future is in leisure so we are carefully diversifying.
“We knew from the start that North East Lincolnshire Council did not want yet more static caravan holiday complexes. We have enough of those on the East Coast. We are aiming to extend the holiday attractions eastwards.”
It’s anticipated that the resort could create up to 300 jobs in the local area.
The Cleethorpes resort isn’t the only new offering set to open for holidaymakers.
For example, it was recently announced that an epic £40million water park would be opening in Merseyside complete with a huge beach and wave pool.
Meanwhile, theme park fans are eagerly awaiting the opening of the London Resort, a huge theme park which has earned the nickname of a ‘UK Disneyland’.
Mirror Online previously got an exclusive look at a new image of the attraction, offering a sneak peek at the lands and rides that will be on offer. The rendering showcased some of the themed lands – and we counted approximately EIGHT rollercoasters.
The park’s creators have remained tight-lipped about exactly what will be on offer, but the resort previously signed a deal with Paramount Pictures, so a Hollywood theme could well be on the cards.
