New Jadon Sancho contract offer detailed as Man Utd miss transfer deadline

Borussia Dortmund are set to top up Jadon Sancho’s wages if he remains at the club this season.

Sancho travelled with the BVB squad for their pre-season training camp in Switzerland on Monday morning.

The England star, who had been in London over the weekend, joined his colleagues as they boarded their flight to St Gallen.

He reported for duty after Dortmund’s August 10 ‘deadline’ for his transfer to Manchester United passed – with no movement on a deal.

Dortmund bosses have publicly stated previously that if Sancho was with the squad, then he would spend the 2020-21 season in Germany.

United bosses have always treated that deadline as little more than an artificial tactic however.

BVB chiefs are continuing to look for £105million for Sancho, but United are unwilling to go above £80million in the current financial climate, post-coronavirus.

They believe that is more than fair, for a player who is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s No.1 summer target.

But BVB see no reason why they should lower their price for a player who scored 17 times and added 17 assists in the Bundesliga last season – particularly when, in 12 months time, United are unlikely to be the only bidder.

It’s understood that Sancho has told Dortmund chiefs that while interested in a move he won’t attempt to engineer one.

He remains thankful for the faith shown in him three years ago, when Dortmund paid Manchester City £8million for him as an untested 17 year-old, immediately handing him their No.7 shirt.

Sancho has two years left on his deal at the Westfalenstadion, now Bild reports a contract extension and pay rise will be offered as they look to keep Sancho until after next year’s European Championships.

That offer has been in the offing for some time, but the coronavirus crisis and subsequent issues afterwards saw the move put on hold.

Increasing his salary from £5.4million to £9million will propel him among their top earners, while ensuring his value remains at its optimum into 2021 – assuming United don’t get a deal over the line in the coming weeks.
