Rhian Brewster posted a brilliant throwback picture of himself with Steven Gerrard in August, with the photograph quickly going viral.
Questions immediately arose following Brewster’s post: When and where was the photograph taken, how did the photo op come about and why was Brewster wearing a West Ham jacket?
We sat down with Brewster at the FIFA 20 World Premiere and put these questions to him.
“That was when I was younger, about six or seven,” Brewster tells Mirror Football.
“I was on trial at West Ham and I went to a game, it was West Ham vs Liverpool and obviously I took a picture with him – oh and by the way I’m not a West Ham supporter! I don’t know where everyone got that from.
“I have always wanted to be a footballer, and it was Gerrard! Who knew I was going to be at Liverpool one day?”
Brewster recently spoke to Gerrard about the picture, after the Liverpool legend came across it on the youngster’s Instagram page.
“He said ‘It’s mad’,” added Brewster. “He didn’t know who the hell I was back then – I knew who he was.
“I mean you see how small the world is. If you had said to me I would be at Liverpool about ten or fifteen years later I would have been like ‘What’, and yet here I am.”
