Some Twitter users appear to be experiencing issues, receiving an error message on the platform’s home page and being unable to reload the page.
Twitter did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
The apparent outage comes on the heels of a tumultuous couple of days for Twitter, following the publishing of a New York Post article on Wednesday. The outlet reported evidence purporting to show secret emails between Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Bien, and a Ukrainian official. Journalists, politicians, and others are now questioning the veracity of the report, posing such questions as if the emails are legitimate and how they were uncovered as Business Insider’s Sonam Sheth reports.
Twitter responded by immediately banning the article from being circulated on the site, without offering an explanation as to why. The company later came forward and said the ban was due to a hacking material policy, stating that it doesn’t “want to incentivize hacking by allowing Twitter to be used as distribution for possibly illegally obtained materials.” Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey even said blocking users from sharing the article without providing context was “unacceptable.”
However, President Donald Trump and Republicans latched onto the move as further proof that Big Tech harbors an anti-conservative bias.
