Best city for fine dining revealed as it boasts highest number of Michelin stars

Foodies may want to add Tokyo to the bucket list as it has just been revealed as the best city for fine dining.

The Japanese capital came top out of 25 cities in new research by Alpha Travel Insurance, boasting the highest total number of Michelin Stars as well as the most fine dining restaurants.

Across its swankiest establishments, Tokyo took top spot with a collective number of 229 Michelin Stars, storming ahead of Paris which took second place with 113.

It wasn’t the only Japanese city to prove a hit though, as Osaka was placed third with a total of 99 Michelin Stars.

Meanwhile, London represented the UK with 73 Michelin Stars establishing it as the fourth best city for fine dining, closely followed by New York with 71,

But it’s not just the quality of the food which has seen Tokyo winning the gold medal. It also offers up the largest quantity of places where you can sample gourmet dishes, with 1,758 establishments considered ‘fine dining’ across the city.

Again, it was miles ahead of Paris which took second place with 756 restaurants.

It’s no surprise that Tokyo is proving such a hit – after all, it’s no secret that the city offers a plethora of choice for foodies.

Alongside its fine dining offerings, visitors will find a cornucopia of food experiences from the traditional tea ceremonies to the city’s iconic Tsukiji fish market.

Then there are the street food carts and quirky cafes to be found hidden throughout the city streets, where you’ll find everything from local, traditional dishes to gloriously decadent desserts.
