Theme parks can make for a brilliant family day out, from the thrilling rollercoasters to family-friendly rides and attractions.
Even if you’ve been before there’s always plenty of excitement to be had, but there is something extra special about trying out a brand new ride for the first time.
Luckily, UK theme parks deliver, and often unveil brand new rollercoasters and attractions that make for something different.
Then there’s the accommodation, with everything from themed hotels to glamping pods on offer for those planning an overnight break.
Here we take a look at what’s new across the UK theme parks for 2019…
Alton Towers Dungeon
Alton Towers Resort
The Staffordshire-based resort is opening a brand new attraction sure to get the whole family’s adrenaline pumping.
The Alton Towers Dungeon will offer a boat ride with plenty of spooky surprises hidden around the track, in what the resort promises will be a “hilariously hideous journey through Staffordshire’s darkest history”.
The new attraction replaces the former Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride and is set to open to the public on Saturday 23rd March 2019.
You can already book tickets on the Alton Towers Resort website for the 2019 season.

The ‘Stargazing Pods’ can sleep up to four people and have minimal furniture, each featuring one double bed and two single beds. They also have features like heating and charging points, as well as a small terrace.
Prices start from £88 per night off-peak and £123 in peak season.

Chessington World of Adventures
Smaller children are going to love Chessington’s new ride, which will be themed around author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler’s ‘Room on the Broom – A Magical Journey‘, bringing the beloved children’s tale to life.
Families can wander into the enchanted library and embark on an adventure in search of the Witch’s hat, bow and wand – meeting a few quirky characters along the way.
The new attraction is set to open in spring 2019.
Legoland Windsor Resort
Kids can party with ghoulish beings at the park’s new Haunted House Monster Party attraction.
Expect spooky festivities, joke-telling LEGO gargoyles, talking statues, balloons and even a trip to the vampire’s banquet hall for a party filled with food, cauldrons, potion bottles and goblets (all made of LEGO of course).
The new attraction will be opening on the 13th April 2019.
