The Lake District has been named the UK’s best destination for road trips.
The staycation hotspot proved a hit in new research by fuel brand JET, which surveyed 2,000 drivers to uncover Great Britain’s most scenic drives.
It’s no surprise that the Lake District came out on top.
After all, the region in Cumbria is filled with awe-inspiring mountain passes, not to mention there are heaps of routes meandering through the incredible valleys or right by those iconic lakes.
There are some popular spots too such as the Keswick Loop which offers various lakeside views, or the Kirkstone Pass which promises rolling green hills and spectacular surroundings.
But it wasn’t just the Lake District that proved a hit.
The drive between Devon and Cornwall, known as the Atlantic Highway, was voted by Brits as the second best road trip in the UK.
This long and winding 70-mile stretch of the A39 proved a hit thanks to its coastline location, meaning that you can enjoy some extraordinary sea views on one side, and picturesque countryside on the other.
It was an overwhelming favourite with locals from South West England who took part in the research.
The third popular road trip spot was the Peak District, which has long been a firm favourite with driving enthusiasts thanks to its iconic Snake Pass, a long and winding road that’s surrounded by sprawling green fields.
The survey coincides with the launch of JET’s new ad campaign, Keep on Moving, which features the Peak District as its backdrop.
