Wayne Rooney believes his former Manchester United teammate Angel Di Maria could be the man to fire PSG to Champions League glory in the final against Bayern Munich on Sunday night.
The French side are arguably the slight underdogs for the clash in Lisbon due to Bayern’s sensational recent form.
However, Di Maria has looked dangerous recently, and played a crucial part in the semi-final win over RB Leipzig, scoring once and creating two assists in the comfortable 3-0 victory.
And despite the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe being generally more lauded for their abilities than Di Maria, Rooney has backed the Argentinean winger to make the difference.

“PSG’s match-winner might just be Di María,” Rooney said. “He’s a wonderful player. When he came to United I remember Louis van Gaal saying to the team: ‘He is the only one who is allowed to dribble with the ball.’
“Angel works tirelessly on the pitch and his delivery, vision and awareness is brilliant.”
Di Maria struggled to make an impact during his time at Old Trafford, spending just one season at the club in the 2014-15 campaign following his big-money move from Real Madrid before making the move to France.
And Rooney rued the fact he wasn’t able to show the best of his abilities in the Premier League.

“He could have been a major star at United but at the time we were going through a bit of a transition and it was tough for him to settle,” he continued.
“He had young kids and lived a couple of houses down from me and someone tried to burgle him. I remember that really shook him and his family.
“From then on, really, you knew it was going to be tough for him and it was probably better for him to leave.”
