Tequila fans will no doubt have Mexico on their bucket lists already, but there’s one hotel that needs to be on your radar.
That’s because the Matices Hotel de Barricas offers up stays in huge barrels – right by a tequila distillery.
Guests can sleep in the quirky accommodation and roll out to the nearby distillery where you can take part in tequila tastings, enjoy guided tours of the site, or explore the museum offering a glimpse into the history of the famous spirit.
The barrels themselves make for a pretty cool stay. Inside you’ll find all of the basics you need for a comfortable stay including a double bed, ensuite bathroom and access to a private deck so you can soak up the sunshine.
The hotel is located in the town of – you guessed it – Tequila.
It’s a pretty fascinating place; the town and its surrounding blue agave fields have been declared a World Heritage Site thanks to their ties to the history and culture surrounding tequila.
There’s heaps to explore if you’re interested in the history of the drink, not to mention that it’s under an hour’s drive to the city of Central Guadalajara, renowned for its incredible architecture, vibrant bar scene and historic landmarks.
Prices for a stay in the barrels start from £138 per night on Booking.com, based on two people staying.
Still, it doesn’t hurt to daydream about where to travel the day that holidays re-open!
