Sugarloaf Mountain is hailed as one of the best things to see in Rio de Janeiro , and now you can experience the landmark in a whole new way – by staying the night.
That’s because the cable cars, which take visitors up the impressive 396m-high mountain, are opening up for overnight stays.
Booking.com is offering stays in one of the second-generation cable cars from 1972, which has been transformed into a cosy bedroom, complete with a separate bathroom and dining area.
Oh, and guests will even be treated to a guided tour of the Sugarloaf complex, and a dinner at Clássico Sunset Club, a restaurant located at the peak of Sugarloaf Mountain with spectacular views of the city.
The cable car won’t be suspended for the stay, you’ll be very much on the ground, but it will be located at the Tram Square on Morro d Urca, the first hill on the way up, so you can still expect some pretty incredible panoramic views of the landscape.
You can book a stay on the Booking.com listing but it’s worth noting that these will be on a first come, first served based, and there are only two nights up for grabs; November 12th and November 13th.
The bookings will open on October 29th at 2pm GMT (the clocks will have gone back by then), and again on the 30th at the same time.
The cable car stay is priced at R$200 a night – approximately £38 – and considering it’s based on two people sharing, it makes for quite a budget-friendly stay. (The price includes entrancne to Sugarloaf Mountain, although transport is not included).
Don’t be disheartened if you don’t manage to bag one of the stays. You can still go and ride the cable cars during the day time – or head to other hotspots such as Christ the Redeemer or Ipanema beach, both of which are great vantage points from which to view the mountain.
Booking.com is offering the experience after the brand’s research into travel trends for 2020 revealed that there’s set to be a rise in travellers visiting destinations that offer an array of enriching experiences.
